What Led Me to think of Freelancing

The phone rang. It was from our office. I wondered why they called. “I’m sorry, Lorie…”
Boom, I lost my job. The moment was like “what just happened?”. My hypothalamus is still processing what I heard. But then…. This is real, I did lose my job.
Then I knew and understood it is because of the pandemic and millions of people around the world are losing their jobs. I can’t hide asking those questions in my mind; “It’s possible to work from home, the company is rich..why can’t they …” and so on. Yet again, I comforted myself by thinking there’s a purpose and reason why things happen, what I only have to do is to get on my knees and fight. I have to look for another job. I have to plan with the limited resources I have at the time.
Then planning stages come. How much is the money left in my account including my back pay? How much will I spend for the whole month for rent, electricity, water and food? Can I lower it to save more and extend the days? How long am I able to stretch my budget before getting a new job? After planning for the financial side, I also planned for the things that I'll do for the coming days. The company that I will apply to, I have updated my resume, created cover letters, etc. Yet I still have much time during the day. That’s when I saw ads on facebook about cheap online courses. Since I am on the verge of saving money and efficiently using my time, I asked for advises from my church family. I asked for counsel. I know that planning alone might only be good but planning with a multitude of counselors is better.
I started to take free courses in Udemy and Shaw Academy, then I finally enrolled in Digital Marketing and Graphic Design Courses in Shaw Academy taking advantage of their lifetime membership promotion. Whilst the courses are progressing, I have thought of freelancing and what to do to start. It happened that one of my friends enrolled in FVA Consultancy and it sparked an idea for me to enroll too. This is where I am introduced to FVA Academy and I also enrolled in their FVA Freelancing Course. As days go by, I have focused more on three things; sending resumes and applications to hiring companies while studying on the Freelancing course and studying Theology classes.
On the side of my schedule, I also managed to complete the WordPress and Marketing course by Coursebelt and I am learning so much. I am grateful that I am able to learn with the courses I have enrolled. In WordPress and Marketing, I am able to learn how to create a website using WordPress and positioning with the marketing touch. Now, I am completing the FVA Freelancing course and I have learned a lot too; I learned the freelancing basics like setting up social media accounts, Job Platform Account creation and optimisation; how to optimise social media accounts, how to create content plans and designing using canva; scheduling tools like Hootsuite; SEO tools like SEO Quake. On and Off Page Optimisation/backlinking, etc. I know this is just the start of my freelancing

journey and I look forward to up-skill more and be able to apply it.
Nothing is easy in this world, all things must be done by consistency and perseverance. We can get tired, it’s true, but we can rest and get up. We cannot stay down for so long. We need to go on and fight.
Until my next article, please stay safe.
